APAP|NYC is the place to do business and expand professional networks. For the seasoned professional this may seem easy. But for a conference first-timer, prioritizing the vast number of showcases, workshops, and forums offered while assessing how best to network can be an overwhelming idea. This is where you come in!

Why is mentoring important?
A strong APAP|NYC orientation program for first-time attendees builds a more engaging conference and introduces new colleagues to the field at large. Mentors help ensure that new attendees are truly welcomed to the conference and are provided with the basic tools they need to successfully navigate their conference experience and be a part of the arts ecology at APAP|NYC. Being a mentor is a unique networking opportunity for you as well - it's a chance to connect with field professionals and expand your network!

What do I have to do?
APAP has a long-standing tradition of linking new colleagues with seasoned field professionals. When you agree to mentor a "New Colleague" (a first-time conference attendee), we will send you a short list of names one month prior to the conference. We ask that you reach out, either via phone or email, and introduce yourself and answer questions they may have in advance of their arrival in New York City. At the conference, we ask that you attend the New Colleagues Orientation on Friday where you will meet your mentees face-to-face for discussions in a round-table setting.

To become a mentor, email APAP Membership Director Sue Noseworthy at snoseworthy@artspresenters.org. Please put "New Mentor" in the subject line and include your basic contact information. Only those who have fully registered for APAP|NYC 2013 may sign up to be a mentor.
